Description

“In 1571 Pope Pius V succeeded in uniting Spain, Venice, and the other Mediterranean Christian powers into the Holy League. The Holy League fleet was commanded by Don Juan. They encountered the Turkish fleet near Lepanto and won a decisive victory . . . Lepanto was the largest naval battle of the renaissance, and the last great battle of the oared galleys. The galleys would were soon made obsolete by sailing ships that could out maneuver the oared warships and fire a powerful broadside of cannon fire.”

A miniatures wargame intended for classroom use with two teams of students (grades 6-8). The game is designed to be played on a 7.5x5 foot table using miniature ships. Free print-and-play paper miniatures are provided for use with the rules.

Each miniature represents approximately three galleys. The galleys are armed with forward firing guns and can also attack by ramming. Grappling and boarding actions are also covered in the rules.
