This is the 85th in an ongoing series aimed to provide the overworked DM with ready-to run encounters. The PCs find a Spire Tomb of the D’Aroine. Will they learn the secrets of the memories of the D’Aroine or join the pile of forgotten bones? The toughest single encounter is CR 10.
The D’Aroine were an ancient proto-fey people, somewhat like modern elves. They claimed to be the second mortal people (the Dersatti being the first) and named themselves based on this claim: “D’Aroine” is derived from their words for “second people.” With a natural lifespan of thousands of years and a general talent for magic, they spread across the ancient world and formed a powerful and vast kingdom in the shadow of the vastly more powerful Dersatti. But all things come to an end, and so did the D’Aroine.
Scholars still debate which account of the cause of their demise is true while adventurers eagerly seek out their ancient ruins in the hope of plundering magical treasures. Among the most sought-after targets are the D’Aroine Spire Tombs. While guarded with strange magic, traps and monsters, these spires inevitably contain great treasure just waiting for those lacking in scruples to plunder the ancient dead and tread through the memories of the D’Aroine.
