Mighty Gunvolt Burst (マイティガンヴォルト バースト) is a crossover platform game developed by Inti Creates for the Nintendo 3DS and Nintendo Switch, featuring characters from Azure Striker Gunvolt, Mighty No. 9 and Gal*Gun. It is a sequel to 2014's Mighty Gunvolt. It was released on June 15th and 29th in 2017 for the Nintendo Switch and 3DS respectively. In 2018, it was re-released as Gal*Gunvolt Burst (ぎゃるガンヴォルト バースト) on the PlayStation 4 on March 15th for Japan and North America, and on April 13th in Europe. A Steam port was released on July 31st 2019.
Rather than make a direct sequel to their bite-sized 2D action game Mighty Gunvolt, Inti Creates has made the next installment in the series a brand new full-sized game that features characters from multiple universes with Gunvolt (Azure Striker Gunvolt) and Beck (Mighty No. 9) taking the stage once again, but in a much deeper and more expansive world that differs greatly from the original in many ways. The game systems have been completely revamped and powered up with lots of new additions, including a deep character customization system that lets you mold and shape your character into the ultimate hero that works best for you!
On July 27th, 2017, Ekoro, the third playable character from Mighty Gunvolt, was released as free DLC for two weeks before becoming paid. While the DLC is no longer free, players can get Ekoro for free by downloading and completing the demo version and transferring their save data to the full game. She is available as part of the base game in the PS4 and Steam versions.
On September 28th, 2017, Joule and Call became playable characters as paid DLC, costing $1.99 each.
On December 20th, 2017, it was announced that the rivals of the three original protagonists, being Copen, RAY, and Kurona, would be made available as DLC characters on the 28th for Nintendo consoles, again costing $1.99 per character. They were also released alongside the Playstation 4 version as a "Rivals" set, costing $4.99 for all three characters.
On April 23, 2018, the new character Tenzou Motesugi was announced. However, he is not available in the 3DS version. He is available for $1.99 on Nintendo Switch. On PS4 and Steam, he is instead included alongside Joule and Call in a "Heroines" set, costing $4.99 for all three characters.
On August 28th, 2020, Limited Run Games opened preorders for physical version of both Mighty Gunvolt Burst on the Nintendo Switch and Gal*Gunvolt Burst on the PlayStation 4. Both of these releases included all of the paid DLC on disc/cartridge as well as a full-color instruction booklet. Collector's Editions of both version were also available during the preorder window.
