Mistress of Blood Tower is a horror adventure designed for four to five characters of levels 3rd through 7th. Scaling suggestions are provided for lower-level parties. Short-Term Madness is used in the adventure, and It has the potential to be deadly.
The adventure begins with a quick investigation that leads the characters to an old tower in the forest. While exploring the tower, they find clues that help frame the story of what happened to another adventuring party.
The village of Worthywool is famous for its herds of sheep. Many of the livestock are rare breeds, and their wool is sought after by nobles from around the realms. For a long time, the shepherds here have prospered off the profits. This has allowed several families to make considerable sums of money, building large farmhouses, expanding their flocks, and even - in some cases - hiring guards to prevent theft or damage to their precious sheep.
Recently, however, the shepherds have been noticing that their flocks are diminishing. Something, either a wild beast or band of rogues, has been killing or stealing the sheep. Because of this, one of the richer families, the Ramrunners, have put on extra guards to defend their flock.
When a prized ewe goes missing, and a guard dog is found dead in the same field, and the hired guards are perplexed, the Ramrunners put out a call for local adventuring parties to assist them in their investigation.
