You are cursed to die after playing a haunted video game, and are attacked by the ghosts of those the game killed in the past. You hold the DS like a book and interact with the world and move with the D-Pad and touch screen. There are parts of the game where you play the cursed game, on a device very similar to a DS, when you do you play a game with a similar style to the first Final Fantasy. You do not fight enemies in the game or real world setting, gameplay is limited because you also do not keep an inventory in either world.
