Neon Genesis Evangelion (新世紀エヴァンゲリオン, Shinseiki Evangelion) is an action video game released for the Nintendo 64. It is based on the animated series of the same name as well as The End of Evangelion anime film. The game was only sold for 8800 Yen (plus tax) in Japan on June 25th 1999 by Bandai Entertainment.
This game is known for, in some ways, pushing the limits of the Nintendo 64's hardware, such as the use of original footage from the show, as well as voice clips from the original series' cast. The game plays through most of the major battles from both the TV series and The End of Evangelion movie. Half of the levels are side-scrolling, 3D fighting levels, with the player controlling an Evangelion, while the other half involve their own styles of play. The game has 14 missions, each focusing on one of the major enemies of the series.
