From the introduction:

This is the Novella Roleplaying Game. It is a game of competitive, asymmetric roleplaying based on strategic storytelling. There is a win condition. A team of two or more Heroes will be facing off against a single Enemy in a battle of wits fought across four categories: Manipulation, Combat, Intrigue, and Adventure.

We want to emphasize that this game’s most important component is not this rules manual or the dice. It is the friends or other good people you are playing it with. This isn’t just because we think you’ll get good vibes or that that’s what RPG manuals are supposed to say. When you’re taking a skill check or narrating the story, your friends are going to determine your success far more than the dice.
