Description

Oikodomos is a civilization game that focuses on resource management, and that is characterized by flexibility and simplicity. Any unit can perform various roles – explorer, worker, priest, scientist, soldier – at different times during the game, and the modular game board further contributes to the game’s flexibility. Moreover, Oikodomos can be played with any number of players for which components are available: one, two, six, or even twelve if necessary. (Playing time depends on the number of players, however: for experienced players approximately 90 minutes per player; for new players a bit more.)

As in any civilization game, players start with a small tribe (represented by a single unit), build their first city, and start developing technology. More cities are built, and the land around those cities are cultivated to feed the growing population. With population growth, however, dissent rises, and leaving that unchecked results in revolt.

Throughout the game, players should balance growth, development, and the 'happiness' of their citizens. Losing that balance may turn out disastrous later. Too much focus on technological development, for example, may hamper population growth, or leave insufficient means to counter growing dissent; while too much focus on economic growth may hurt scientific progress.
