To the south of the Greymist mountains, where the lesser peaks of the foothills begin, lie a series of narrow valleys. About a decade ago, the area suffered a particularly wet spring. The rain, combined with the snow melt, produced huge flash floods that crashed down some of the valleys, gathering up whole trees and huge boulders which churned the top soil to thick mud.
