Science and Magic are a volatile combination at the best of times. It can simultaneously produce amazing breakthroughs in medicine as well as weapons of mass destruction. It is this fact that the Mages working for the Guild of Arcane Research failed to keep in mind when they created the Voltarian.
These new life-forms, with bodies comprised of arcane-infused slime and giftted strange, unknown powers.
As a player, you can take control of the Voltarian and experience this new world with them. Make use of powers like telekinesis to hurl enemies of rooftops or telepathy to turn them against each other. I should also stress that your abilities can be used for more than killing. You will have access to 5, unique lineages, each granting you powers that evolve over time.
For the DM, there are 6 new monsters, including a new boss encounter. The Spectral Hivemind. Each creature has been tested and should provide a unique challenge to your party depending on which they encounter. They could challenge the Spectre and have to find a way to fight a creature that can control their very perception. Or if you like playing mind games on your dear party, you can use the Doppelganger. Will the party fall to paranoia or root out these spectral shapeshifters.
And then there's the Spectral Hivemind. This new boss encounter is perfect as an encroaching threat. You can describe the party finding villages laid to ruin with no clear answer as to what or who was the cause. The tension builds over time as they begin to hear stories of a great beast. With thousands of barbed tentacles and even more eyes. All this culminating in a final encounter against this eldritch horror. If you like D&D but wish it had more lovecraftian dread, this is your monster.
