Pronouns take the place of nouns and nouns phrases. Some personal pronouns function to tell person, number, and even gender. Personal pronouns can also function to reflect grammatical function (subject, object, determiner possessive, independent possessive, and reflexive). Other pronouns function to represent spatial distance, proximity locations, or abstract difference. Demonstrative pronouns point towards things. Interrogative pronouns, used in questions, represent unknown things. Reflexive pronouns refer back to the subject. Reciprocal pronouns are used for two or more subjects act towards the other. Relative pronouns introduce relative clauses. Indefinite pronouns are vague and don’t refer to a specific person, thing, or amount.
