Presented here is an updated version of the 5e Ranger class including updated mechanics, subclasses, and additional features. This updated class is can learn a number of spells equal to their ranger level + Wisdom modifier to get the ranger greater variety in their spellcasting. It also builds on the ranger's Primal Awareness feature by allowing the ranger to cast spells ritually and swap out rituals for other spells that better fit the flavor of their character. Hunter's Mark is automatically prepared and can be cast a number of times per day without expending a spell slot and is later buffed to allow it to be cast without requiring concentration. Canny has been updated to allow you to gain proficiency in tools or instruments and Roving has been buffed to provide greater mobility to the ranger. New features including Primal Inquiry and Unwavering Mark have been added so that the ranger gains a feature every level. The class also included a much improved capstone feature that makes the ranger even better at landing that important blow. Subclasses have all been updated as well with changes indicated in bold lettering. These subclasses are also backwards compatible with the 5e Ranger.
All of these changes have been made for the sake of a) making all options fun with unique mechanics that make its gameplay interesting, b) balancing the power level of all options for the class, c) making sure that all features scale into the higher levels of play, and e) removing options that can be potentially game-breaking.
