Samwen’s Gemlain Armory introduces a brand-new type of magic item, the infused gem, and a complete system of rules for crafting magic items with them.
The infused gem is a unique magical item which can be combined with other items through a process called inlaying to make a gemlain item. When inlayed into an item, each type of infused gem can grant a variety of features depending on what the item is. A gem can have up to 5 different features, with access to one or two of them at a time depending on what it is inlayed into.
Infused gems can be split into two categories:
Sovereign. Some gems, which belong to the sovereign order, are identical in function, if not appearance, to every other gem of the same type. The rarity and power of a sovereign gem is static, and sometimes, there is only one known instance of a sovereign gem in the world.
Hierarchal. Hierarchal infused gems of the same type, such as ruby or jade, can have a great deal of difference in power between them, as they have a number of characteristics which all contribute to the overall strength in specific ways. To represent this variation, hierarchal gems have four Characteristic tables which are used to calculate its rarity and level of power.
