1 new playable Wizard School Subclass: The Enveloper
7 additional spells suitable for inclusion in the wizards spell list.
1 NPC statblock for a Cunning Enveloper - for DMs to drop straight into their encounters.
A wizard studying the School of Envelopment learns to intensify illusory effects and to wrap conjured things inside disguising illusions. Sometimes this school arises when the use of arcane magic is rare, subject to restrictive draconian laws or to intense social stigma and the need to disguise conjured servitors is at a premium. In other realms it develops where the summoning of creatures is so widespread and commonplace that simple countermeasures against conjured beings have been created and some kind of feint is required in order to obfuscate the wizards intentions.
In both cases these wizards are able to blend conjuration and illusion magic in order to create a greater variety of spell effects than a specialist in either school alone. Often envelopers spells pack more of a punch or wrong foot their opponents due to their unexpected appearance.
This wizard school is intended for use in conjunction with the 2014 ruleset and the player options as presented in the Player’s Handbook and Tasha’s Cauldron of Everything. Wizards are well provisioned with existing subclasses due to the many types of RAW spells. We have therefore been trying to create wizard subclasses based around the overlapping of existing fields of wizard study. This seems more likely to create some interesting themes for wizards than the attempt to create a school from scratch in the crowded magical spellground.
