From the introduction:
Delan is an island city located on the edge of the Perdrosian archipelago and rests beside a smaller island known as Devil's Peak. The city covers the entire island of Delan and there are numerous tunnels underneath the city where there are factories and residences for many of the inhabitants. Delan is inhabited by a mix of Dwarves and Gnomes, though the dwarves tend to live in the caverns while the gnomes, along with numerous other races, live on the surface. The industry of Delan is built upon the backs of the dwarves and also slaves that are bought from traders that regularly pass through the city. Prisoners who have been found guilty of crimes committed against the city will also join the ranks of the slaves. Though the Delanese are slave-owners, they do not engage in the sale of slaves (they find that repugnant), and there are strict laws on the treatment of slaves.
