The adventure begins with the PCs working as caravan guards. For the past several weeks, their caravan has been traveling through a long mountain pass called the Bone Gap, a particularly nasty stretch of hilly terrain home to various types of humanoids. Their destination is the town of Wetbridge, which lies nearly a week to the west.
