2-3 player games are not played in teams. 4-8 players must pick partners. Partners sit opposite each other The dealer deals 10 cards face down to each player. The undealt remainder of the deck is placed face down in the center of the table, becoming the stock, and the top card is turned face up beside it.

Each player starts their turn by drawing one card and discarding one. players and teams collect cards and place melds down in front of them. Players add to these melds throughout the round to gain more points. If a player is able to get rid of all their cards on a turn, the round ends.

Everything that is on the table when a round ends counts as positive points. All cards left in players hands count as negative, even for the team that went out to end the round.
A player may meld as many cards as they please, of one rank or different ranks, forming new melds or adding cards to previous melds. All the melds of a partnership are placed in front of either partner.
