Hard times have come for the good-willed Caribbean governor, Sir Francis, as the creditors are knocking on his door. Marrying off profitably his own daughter Catherine seems like the only way to pay his debts.

Not too keen on the prospect of an arranged marriage, the resolute girl decides to take the matters in her own hands and save her family without forsaking her independence.
