Characters are all powerful magic-users in the modern world. Each character has four Attributes (Wealth, Contacts, Relics, and Secrets) which correspond with the four suits in a stripped pack of French playing cards (Diamonds, Hearts, Spades, and Clubs, respectively). The game proceeds along narrative development until a conflict arises. When this happens, a structure is developed to handle the conflict and a hand of poker determines the outcome.
