The Grey Pox ended over fifty years ago, leaving in its wake a devastation unlike anything the Torrian Empire had ever witnessed. Four out of every five people perished from the withering, wasting death of the plague. Now, every city and town, no matter how glorious its past, is an island of civilization, isolated from the caravans and river barges that once brought prosperity and wealth to the people of the old Empire.

Shadefall is one such town—a walled city, slowly crumbling, as bandits, monsters, and the ever-darkening Whisperwood forest creep closer every day. Most of the people of this town have never been more than a few miles from its deteriorating walls, scratching out a living using old, rusty tools of the former empire.

It is under these conditions that characters start their adventure. Citizens of the town of Shadefall, the adventurers discover a book which details the location of an old crypt in the town’s run-down East Ward. During the Grey Pox, a necromancer used the crypt for bizarre experiments. Now, that area of town is rapidly deteriorating, and soon this crypt may be exposed to the streets above. What threats lie in the old ruins? What treasures? The characters will soon find out.
