Shards from the Multiverse is my first contribution to the Dungeon Masters Guild for the new 2024 ruleset. As its name implies, it is a spiritual successor of my previous Multiversatility: a collection of player options, ranging from backgrounds to familiars. In fact, most of the options provided are, at least in name, based on previous Multiversatility entries.
What I did, however, was readapting the same concept to the new rules, changing more than just the occasional wording. Being mindful of what has been published on the 2024 Player’s Handbook, I excluded all the options that didn’t fit with the new themes, as well as those who would certainly be picked up by WotC, albeit with a few exceptions. Some options, now obsolete, were not readapted, while others are presented here for the first time.
While in Multiversatility the Multiverse was just a convenient theme to include a bunch of different options into the same book, for Shards of the Multiverse I decided to make this theme more relevant both in the rules provided and in their presentation. Being the bookworm that I am, there are many player options that blatantly reflect their literary inspiration, primarily from Michael Moorcock’s works, as is fitting for a book about the Multiverse.
