Shashki Poddavki (give-away Shashki) is a two-player abstract strategy game from Russia. It is played on the dark squares of an 8x8 Checkers board. The usual rules of Checkers, or rather, Shashki apply -- players may advance their pieces by moving them diagonally to an adjacent black square, and the opponent's pieces may be jumped and captured. However, the game goal is inverted: the player who cannot move anymore first wins.
Shashki Poddavki is a game of skill, yet there is little skill transfer between Shashki and Shashki Poddavki. The games are quite different. Shashki Poddavki has millions of players and its own major tournament scene in Russia.
