Description
Shatar is the form of chess played in and around Mongolia. It is played on an 8x8 non-checkered board. Each player has a set of 16 men: 8 chu (pawns) that move and capture as in international chess; a nojon (king) that moves as a chess king; a bers (big animal) that moves as a king+rook; two mor (horses) that move as knights; two temee (camels) that move as bishops; and two tereg (chariots) that move as rooks. Upon reaching the 8th rank, a chu promotes to a bers (only). There is no castling, and there are no initial double pawn moves except for the bers pawns.
