Description

Shootin Iron is a fast-playing miniature game designed for tournament play or pick-up games. The goal of these rules isn't to simulate realism, but rather to allow you to play out cinematic Wild West shootouts using smart tactics and no small bit of luck.

—description from the introduction

This concise miniatures game shares some cosmetic elements with Shotguns -n- Saddles, (the roleplaying game); however, it is a standalone miniatures combat game. The play surface is suggested as 3' x 3', with at least some indication of terrain. The game assumes figures will be used to denote participating units. Ranges are given in inches and play assumes the use of a tape measure. Resolution requires a D6 and a D8. The game rules primarily deal with fire and movement (as you would expect). The default starting situation finds two opposing teams ("posse") of six fighters each.

The game is played in rounds; during each round each participant takes a turn. Turns are executed in specified order and effects take place immediately. Units utilize a simple facing mechanic and gain benefits depending on type. Some complicating rules (e.g., "town folk") are optional. The rules are presented as a single, color PDF document - included are the rules, optional rules, and twelve scenarios (eleven are standard westerns; one is a weird western (zombies).
