User Summary

The standard SNES controller has four buttons play buttons (X, Y, A, & B) on the front right of the controller. It has two shoulder buttons (R & L) on the top edge. It has a directional pad on the front left side of the controller. In the middle there are Start and Select buttons.

Official Versions:

North America

SNS-005
This the original controller for North America. The buttons are purple and lavender colored. The SNES logo for was silk screened on to the controller.

SNS-102
This is the controller that was released with SNES 2. The main changes from the SNS-005 controller was it was a little sturdier and the SNES logo was molded in the plastic. Also, the buttons are a little darker shade of purple.

Japan

SHVC-005
This the original Super Famicom controller that was released with the launch of Super Famicom. The main difference from the North American SNES controller is the buttons are green, blue, yellow, and red.

SNS-102
This controller is identical to the North American SNS-102 buttons are green, blue, yellow, and red. It also uses the Super Famicom branding.

Europe

SNSP-005
This is the original controller for the SNES European version. It has the same color layout as the official Super Famicom controller with red, blue, green, and yellow buttons. It uses the Super Nintendo branding instead of Super Famicom branding.

SNS-102
This is controller is identical to the Japanese SNS-102 except it uses the Super Nintendo branding.

Un-Official Controllers

There are many clone controllers that have been released by different manufactures including Yobo. Most people consider these controllers to be inferior to the official Nintendo controllers.
