From Inside Book
So You Want to Hack with Spiral Dice
Maybe you’re working on the next great RPG system, or maybe you just want a tool to assist you when you get stuck as a GM. Whatever you’re thinking, you’ve arrived here because you want to use Spiral Dice for your own thing. That’s cool. The dice are designed to offer a lot of flexibility and numeric support for starting from just a few dice, and generating complex results that are simple to tally. They were created to support narrative complications alongside variable targets and degrees of success, but the “push-pull” inherent in their symbol pattern can be used for so much more than that.

This Guide is a means to provide you with math and inspiration so that you can go off and cook up wonderful things on your own. I hope that it gets you over the initial hurdle of understanding how the dice work. This Guide is not exhaustive (of course), because I don’t know what kinds of cool things people will do with these dice. It is here to get you off and running.

The tone of this Guide is academic but casual, and uses some terms related to probability distributions in the “Math” section. The subsequent sections focus more on practical use of the dice, and have less math.
