A ship appears at the edge of the system, and then another, and another, decelerating from spelljamming speed...
"Hard to port! Man the turrets!" shouts your naval captain, "Scramble rider squads!" The sound of hooves thunders, reverberating throughout the ship as the space cavalry battalion charges out of the cargo hold, shimmering hooves carrying the flying warhorses across the void and out toward the enemy fleet, banners flying from the mounted knights' polearms. In the distance, astral outposts of the orbital defense line turn to train their long range cannons on the enemy ships. The first mate has a furrowed brow, concentrating as he holds two fingers to his forehead. He looks up at the captain. "It's no use, they're scrambling our messages. They've got brain bugs aboard." The captain's eyes darken. "Get the signaling lights up," she says. "Are the mercenaries at station?" "Right here, captain," the gurgling voice of a fish-headed being says, walking onto the bridge. It's a pelagikaarp bounty hunter, flanked by a heavily armed Kyvilian plasmathrower and the glowing flame visage of a half-azer spellfire engineer. "Ready to engage the enemy, captain." The captain turns toward the fore windows of the bridge, where colorful blasts are beginning to erupt among the approaching fleet. "It's time to defend our world. Helm, all ahead full".
