Description

Lovecraftian Horror in the Frozen North

A Roguelike Tabletop Scenario

From the introduction:

Svalbard is a standalone scenario that borrows elements from the world of H.P. Lovecraft. Through investigation, awareness, recollection, and comprehension, the players and their characters will experience a time-bending and relentless scenario as they are lost in time and space for an eventful evening!

The scenario is set on the Norwegian archipelago of Svalbard close to the North Pole in the year 1993. The characters are resourceful investigators sent to explore the mysteries surrounding a secret Russian mine deep below the frozen landscape. As time is running out, the characters need to stop an experiment gone horrible wrong—a warp in the time-space continuum that threatens to unleash the mad will of the daemon-sultan Azathoth.

The main mechanism of Svalbard is to explore, then die, then repeat. If you have read the book All you need is kill, seen the movie Edge of Tomorrow, played the board game Time Stories, or know the concept ‘roguelike’ from video games like Returnal, that is what we are talking about.
