Fantasy Gaming for Kids
User summary:
Swords and Portals is a very simple roleplaying game apparently intended for kids. Characters have four Attributes - Brawn, Knowledge, Speed, and Charm. Attribute values are derived by random roll of 3d6. After the Attributes are generated, two of the score may be swapped. Characters also have a sort of Class, though it is very minimal - the class determines hit points and one general ability. Characters also have a standard starting set of equipment that is augmented by a few random rolls.
The remainder of the game - including any resolution mechanic or play style - is undefined. Based on references to magic and some of the equipment items, a traditional fantasy/pseudo-medieval genre/setting is implied.
The game otherwise apparently is intended to be played as a sort of "old school" retro-clone (there are two internal references to "OD&D").
Subtitled "Fantasy Gaming for Kids", the game otherwise has no special adaptations or methods that would make it particularly suitable for children.
