Description

From publisher blurb:

The Tablet Class Fuel Scavenger is a general class of fuel scavenger vessel intended for use in planetary systems where there are no readily available sources of fuel, or where the available fuel is locked behind an energy gradient that makes ready access uneconomic (only available as surface water on a planet in the habitable zone).

Such systems are usually found without a suitable gas giant for wilderness refuelling, so other sources of fuel are necessary. If the system has a planetoid belt, ice bearing asteroids are highly likely to be plentiful outside the habitable zone, and these can be scavenged for fuel.

The ships of this class are specialised in their role and of simple construction. The most complex elements are the drilling and manipulator arms and the sensors required to detect ice bearing asteroids.
