Chinese herbal medicine advanced brilliantly during the Tang Dynasty. Imperial medical colleges were built, state examinations for doctors were held, and the “Materia Medica”, a complete medical encyclopedia, with text and illustrations about almost one thousand medical substances, was released during the period. The search for the elixir of everlasting life, another recurrent topic through all of Chinese imperial history, continued during these years.
The Herbalist character is inspired by a Chinese herbal medicine student. She may use her herbs token to give new life to other characters in play and so using their abilities any time she wants. On the other side she allows the player to gain a lot of coins if there are special temple tiles in her line of sight at the end of the game. She is a very powerful character, but be aware: her ability is limited by the number of tokens available and you need to pass one turn to regain them all.
