Tanner's Crossing
A Village Setting for Assorted Fantasy Tabletop Role Playing Games

After dealing with footpads, loose stones, and a terrible rainstorm you finally reach the crossroads of the trade routes. Near the crossing point there’s a smaller connecting road with a sign indicating that the path leads to the community of Tanner’s Crossing. You’ve heard of this place and the stories about the wonderful meals that can be had at the Sleeping Boar Inn. That sounds nice, as you could certainly use a real meal and a comfortable night’s rest. After thinking it over you decide to head down the road and resume your travels tomorrow morning. Before starting down the road, however, you check your coin purse and your surroundings. There’s been recent stories about groups of footpads lying in wait on the outskirts of the village…

Background
Nestled in an area that is filled with nearby smaller farming establishments and some heavily traveled trade routes, the once tiny hamlet of Tanner’s Crossing became a popular resting point for tired merchants and farmers passing through. Such visitors allowed the community to quickly grow into a thriving village with two inns and a rich variety of specialty shops.

Beneath the prosperity of this village lies a growing element of corruption and criminal plotting. Stolen goods are frequently traded on the north side of the village while a flophouse on the south side provides lodging for thieves, fugitives, and drifters. The areas immediately surrounding Tanner’s Crossing are becoming less safe to travel, which defeats the community’s goal of being an inviting place to stop at for a brief rest. The footpads, robbers, and shady conspirers also threaten to hinder the growth of the village’s expansion of population and businesses.
