From publisher blurb:
Welcome to Template Races: Elementals. The idea of having a character with elemental powers has been around for a while now. Maybe your great-granddad was an Efreeti or just living at the base of a volcano for generations gave your family fire powers! Whatever the reason, you should be able to play a character with a few fire powers but still also be a human, gnome, or whatever race you choose.
Pathfinder has gone the route of creating dedicated races for each of the four classical elements - ifrit, oread, sylph, and undine. Dungeons & Dragons takes much the same approach with the elemental genasi. Like previous entries in the Template Races series, our goal here is to provide a method for you to create elemental races that are still recognizable as members of another mortal race, such as elf, orc, or human. However, in this installment, we are less concerned with capturing the exact mechanics of the Pathfinder elemental races and more with providing a tool to create flavorful and interesting elemental races. In particular, we have adjusted the ability bonuses to what seemed more in line with each element.
That is where the elemental race template comes in – it is a quick and relatively simple way to produce game rules for elemental races that incorporate elements from the mortal race and their elemental heritage. Use this race template to combine elemental racial traits with the racial traits of the desired mortal race in a similar manner to applying a monster template to a monster stat block.
Here we present the elemental race template and an example of each elemental heritage.
