In Thar's Rustlers in Them There Hills a group of thieves are stealing horses. They will attempt to lure the characters away from their own camp and horses, then slip into it and steal the animals. Properly trained horses can be expensive, plus the characters may have much of their kit on their animals, adding to the cost. If they also have important and necessary items on the beats, this will cause more problems.

This is aimed at d100 systems but is generic enough in nature to be adapted to others.
