The Siege of Bastogne was a confrontation between American and German forces in the Belgian city of Bastogne, which was part of the larger Battle of the Bulge during World War II. The siege lasted from December 20 to 27, 1944, when the besieged Americans were relieved by elements of General Patton's Third Army.
For their incredible feats, courage and endurance, the soldiers of the 101st Airborne Division were called by the press of their time “The Battered Bastards of Bastogne.”
