The Battle of Yu-Dong

The Battle of Yu-Dong was the first large-scale army-level battle conducted in the eastern part of Henan Province(河南省) during the Chinese Civil War.
From June to July 1948, the East China Field Army(The Third Field Army of PLA), with the cooperation of the Central Plains Field Army(The Second Field Army of PLA), unexpectedly captured Kaifeng(开封), the capital of Henan Province , defeated the Ou Shounian(区寿年) Army in Sui County(睢县) and Qi County(杞县) areas. In the end, Qiu Qingquan(邱清泉) and Huang Baitao(黄百韬)'s Group Army jointly repelled the People's Liberation Army, and Kaifeng was able to recover.
In this battle, Su Yu(粟裕) led 200,000 troops to attack the Kuomintang’s 250,000 defenders.the CCP suffered 30,000 casualties and the KMT lost 90,000. Both sides claimed that they had won.
