From book:
INTRODUCTION
This book contains a collection of beings, many of them hostile, for the Out of the Ashes roleplaying game. Just as in the ‘People and monsters’ chapter of the core rules, the entries are divided between animals, people, tainted, undead, desecrators, and monsters. The last is something of a catch-all category: the beings are not human, but could be benevolent or benign. Unlike the tainted and desecrators, and most of the undead, monsters are not inherently evil.
Where this book differs from the core rules is what accompanies the monsters. You’ll find a large number of locations and scenario seeds, linked tightly or loosely to the various creatures here. A region is often specified for these locations, but there are no maps. Place the locations, and change them as needed, to suit your Out of the Ashes quests. Have fun playing with them.
As for the scenario seeds, they can be quick inspiration for quests, and often mention a home community or allied community. They are intended to form a basis for a quest, either individually or joined together for something more complex. Use them, change them, join them, and link them to locations or unlink them as you see fit.
The scenarios seeds are also improvisational tools, helpful to form hazards on an expedition or additional goals in a quest. This can especially be a good thing to do when player choices mean a game moves rapidly, and you want to present some good options. You’ve got this!
