Description

From the publishers blurb:

Upon her deathbed Inge, wife the comte of Augusta Treverorum, made a shocking confession: Dagobert, their young son, was not born of her husband Gunthigis but Ottmar, one of his trustis. Gunthigis waited until his wife was buried to bring this heinous accusation to his once-trusted advisor in private. Ottmar, heartbroken, could no longer deny he and Inge’s infidelity. The outraged comte challenged his former friend to personal combat and slew him; with his blade still red from his former friend’s heartsblood he ordered the child be brought before him. Knowing the babe would be put to death, a loyal retainer to Ottmar stole Dagobert from his crib and fled into the night.

Twenty years have passed and the boy Dagobert has become a man; cunning, cruel, and simmering with resentment. Gunthigis, re-married, prepares to celebrate the marriage age of his daughter. Dagobert plans to abduct his half-sister during the celebratory feast. To do this he has retained the services of Bleda, a wizard-for-hire. Unbeknownst to Dagobert, Bleda has an agenda all his own - an agenda delivered to him by the silver armband he bears and the vengeful spirit of Carvilius that pours a honeyed poison into his ear each night…

The Evil That Men Do is the second module in the three-part “I” (for “Introduction”) series. It was written for use with the Wormwood historical fantasy setting guide; however it can be fitted with relative ease in any old-school role-playing adventure fantasy setting.

This is the second of three adventure modules specifically designed to form a series, with player characters beginning their journeys in I1, Creeping Death, progressing through this adventure module, and pursuing this adventure to its logical conclusion in I3, March of the Macabre. Each module is complete in itself and can be played separately if desired, although the overall experience is more satisfactory to overcome all three modules in order. This module is designed for 6-10 player characters of character level 1-4. If the adventuring company has played I1 they should ideally start at character level 2 having experienced their first winter phase. Likewise if the referee has previously overseen I1 with the same players they should have the necessary information to proceed with this adventure.

This series is ideal for the experienced old-school role-playing adventure fantasy gamer and the novice gamer both and should introduce the latter to many of the concepts found in the Wormwood setting guide.
