From the introduction:
The Fiction We Live is a storytelling game about friendship, shared history, and the small wrongs we do each other over time.
You play a group of friends reunited after an indefinite period of time for a catch-up. Some of you may have kept in touch the entire time; others may not have spoken for years. Some of you might harbour long-lived resentments or attractions. Many of you still hide secrets from each other. You’ll discover these things, and the reasons for them, as you play.
This is a game of discovery. As such, you shouldn’t read these procedures for play ahead of time. Read this book together as a shared part of the game, following any instructions you are given as they are given to you even if you don’t fully understand them at the time.
