Description

From publisher blurb:

The giant husk is an enormous centaurian golem, constructed centuries ago from masses of undead flesh by the wizard Drakdagor, and it disappeared when he did. Writers of arcane histories have mostly assumed that he took it with him when he left , and rode it to some far-off plane of existence, mainly for want of any other explanation. Though some were ready to believe it consigned to the dustbin of history, there is no hope for that now. The husk has recently be seen again, lumbering across the Sakhab Wastes. It has been known by many names—the undead colossus, the pyramid of pain, and the chariot of Drakdagar, among others. But the dark elf wizards all know it is hollow, and are not afraid to say so, with the result being that most wastelanders follow their lead if and when they ever speak of it. Human adventurers, as usual, are the last to know. Some Western historians who recognize this rotting mountain even believe it heralds the return of its missing creator, unwelcome as he might be in this day and age.

But there has been no sign of that malevolent genius. The goblins suspect it is instead controlled by some pyromancer or other, as it is now full of fire, which it can breathe upon its foes. Th e orcs have faced this thing in battle once before, and only the most danger-loving giantslayers would like to do so again (especially since it does not, so far, threaten their expansionist designs). But they would still like to know what its purpose is, at the very least.

For the giant husk has not besieged any settlements. Not yet, anyway. Nomads, merchants, and travellers have all gone missing at times when, and places where, the husk has been sighted. And there are those who say they have escaped a violent encounter with the giant, and perhaps a wizard who accompanies it. One group of adventurers found a piece of evidence in the wake of the husk — an ancient Ardoussarlian shrine, dug up from the earth and looted. But they knew not what, exactly, was looted from this excavation. Clearly, this lumbering beast is up to no good, but no one yet knows what it searches for in these blighted wastelands.
