From Introduction:
As an urchin, Bovrik used his small size to his advantage, pretending to be much younger and stupider than he actually was. In fact, he was smarter than anyone he knew, learning letters and numbers with ease. Not everyone noticed, but a secret order of mind-wizards did. He went from a life of pure chaos and desperation to one that was totally controlled and regulated. But he took to the psychic arts like a fish to water, and his brain grew larger, to hold his newfound powers.
But then these mind-wizards faced a schism, and came under attack. Unable to unite against an inquisition of royalist clerics, the order fell apart and scattered to the winds. And so Bovrik returned to the chaos of his youth. Why not use his powerful brain to plunder the dens of greedy monsters? Like so many others, however, he would be rich but for carousing. Too often, he drinks to excess and then the looted coins flow through his fingers like sand until he is once again just another broke-ass murderhobo looking for a dungeon to raid.
