From publisher blurb:
In 1957, the people of Earth met and defeated an alien invasion when an extraterrestrial race dispatched a giant robot to steal the world’s energy. After a rampage of death and destruction, a trio of plucky scientists managed to destroy the artifact by turning its own power against it. But the robot’s alien builders weren’t so easily deterred. Analyzing the data sent back by their robot, the faceless enemy decided to try again using subtler approach: with mind-controlled humans and the construction of Kronoids — smaller versions of the original mechanism. But the plan was exposed when a team of scientists investigating odd energy fluctuations around several major power plants stumbled onto one of the Kronoids and its human slaves. After the inevitable fight, the scientists discovered that there were Kronoids all over the world, each as smart as the others and attended by human slaves. Unable to draw official attention to the threat, the scientists were forced to band together with like-minded people from around the world and develop an underground counterforce dedicated to ridding Earth of the threat of the Kronoids and driving off their alien creators. This is the legacy of The Kronos War.
The Kronos War is a mini-campaign setting for 2D6 RPGs such as Cepheus Engine and the Original Science Fiction Roleplaying Game (OSFRPG), and inspired by Kronos, a science fiction movie released in 1957. The campaign centers around the aftermath of an alien invasion when an organization of scientists secretly fights a robotic enemy bent on harvesting Earth’s energy stores.
Although short, the campaign rules offer plenty of resources ready to be linked to the Referee’s imagination:
A campaign background along with mention of its source material
A reason for the invasion and the need for secrecy
A list of hero Careers suitable for use
A brief discussion of the technology used by the two sides and a new piece of equipment that might give the humans a chance to save their world.
A writeup of the Kronoids’ capabilities and motivations.
The Kronos War. Defeat is not an option.
