On the banks of the Sovereign River lies the outpost town of Queen’s Rest, a community of merchants, farmers and explorers descended from those who escaped the fall of the once-great nearby city of Bosco Sacro. Those living here are a hardy bunch, used to strenuous work and difficult times.
Although it may seem like a quaint, rustic town, in some ways Queen’s Rest resembles a makeshift fort. A visitor may notice claw marks on various sections of the palisade, hinting at a very real reason for the wall’s existence.
It is known that monsters infest this area and the inhabitants arm themselves accordingly, always wary for an attack on the town. Fortunately, brave souls dare to enter the ruins of the city in search of relics, and invariably encounter some of the monstrous creatures that call the ruins of Bosco Sacro home. Many inexperienced warriors lose their lives when they underestimate the power of the creatures within the ruins, yet there are experienced hunters who have fought these monsters for decades and survived.
In spite of their best efforts, the culling provides only temporary relief from their presence, for something lurking deep within the city calls out to monsters near and far, drawing them to the ruins and coordinating their movements. The source of this magic isn’t fully understood, but there can be no question that its power is growing…
