Publisher's blurb:
One thousand years ago, four evil kings were defeated in battle, and escaped with only their families and four young dragons they had enthralled. After journeying through the mountains, they found a massive caldera created by an extinct volcano, containing a lush valley and a crystal lake. Perfect place to rebuild! But the valley was not empty.
Beside the lake was a palace, adorned with flags, flowers, and jeweled windows. The kings sent the copper dragon to investigate. He was a gentle soul and a delightful emissary. A bored and brilliant archfey, the Duke of Morning, lived in the palace and mined these mountains for gems with his army of sprites. He liked the dragon and wanted it, having always yearned to be happy. The kings? He didn't like them so much.
He offered a pact of sanctuary, if the kings agreed to give him the dragon. The copper dragon warned the kings not to take the pact, because the fey was sure to be tricking them! But the kings dismissed these concerns. The other dragons fought the kings and flew away in outrage, but the copper dragon was loyal, and the pact was sealed.
