Inspired by research into how positive thinking (and a sense of humor) promotes mental health, The Upside is a lighthearted and uplifting way to spend 30 minutes realizing that you might not have it so bad after all.
Every round starts with a little chaos and mayhem. Players roll the disaster dice to provide the who, what and how of each round's terrible situation. The dice produce combinations like "Global medical disaster" or "Personal Financial Adversity"
Then players flip over an inspiration card where Mr. Upside suggests how to make the situation even worse. All of a sudden the story could become "Global Medical Disaster caused by Diabolical Mermaids" which is so much more awesome.
Then players race to find the silver lining by coming up with the most creative positive spin to life's little disasters before time runs out. Responses get one point for being unique and one point for being the best of the round. Play continues until a player has 13 positivity points- whereupon he or she is dubbed the quintessential Mr. Upside.
