Inspired by the Data East game, "Disco No 1", Thin Ice originally entered development in 1982. The theme was changed to an ice skating Penguin catching polar bears and running from a seal. When Mattel Electronics landed the 1984 Winter Olympics license, the game was converted to "Voochko On Ice", using the Olympics mascot. Mattel Electronics folded before the game could be releaed, and the original Penguin theme was brought back for its INTV Corp release.
