So the premise is Guthram Gowt was destroyed when the altarmen stopped making sacrifices to the gods. The gods want their stuff. Because the gods didn't get their stuff they said "Screw you little village Guthram Gowt. You don't give us stuff we take our protection away." Followed by some evil god laugh. Think Vincent Price laughing through Darth Vader's breathing thingy.
