Trip World (トリップワールド) is a side-scrolling platform video game developed and published by Sunsoft. The game's plot centers around the bunny-like being Yakopoo and his quest to retrieve the Maita Flower so that peace can be restored to his disarranged world. The protagonist's trademark ability is to shape-shift into different forms which aids in the traversal of the game's five stages.
The game was originally released for the GameBoy in Japan on November 27 1992, and then in Europe the following year. Due to the lack of a North American release, copies of the game sold for shockingly high prices on reseller websites like eBay. The game was eventually added to the Nintendo 3DS Virtual Console in Japan on November 30 2011, and in Europe on January 5 2012. Still, a North American release was overlooked.
At long last, in April 2023, Limited Run Games announced they were partnering with Sunsoft to release the GameBoy game in North America. In addition, they also revealed that they were developing Trip World DX, a colorized version of the original game, for release on the GameBoy Color as well as modern consoles. It was released for Nintendo Switch on November 30 2023, and for PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5 on February 15 2024.
