Being a trader is a very dangerous profession within the Veins of the Earth. There is very little civilization, and even less ways that allow to transport any substantial amount of goods. Thereby, most goods that traders deal with are costly. Food is the most costly, right after slaves, for slaves are always food as well, and must have abilities that make it worthwhile to feed them, instead of eating them. But in certain areas, traders from far away offer a kind food that is so inexpensive that every sane dweller of the Veins will already guess that it is to good to be true. And in a way, it is… but then… you are starving, right?
