Vorbereitung zur Walpurgisnacht is the first of a trilogy of witchcraft games from the Japanese coterie circle ᚫ ᚱ ᛏ ᛖ ᛗ ᛁ ᛋ ᛁ ᚫ (Artemisia). The game is for three players only, and has the three witches concocting their flying potions, to be used in the successive game Brocken, when they fly for Walpurgisnacht.
The original game has a trifold game board of thick card, with different sections to complete the potions. There is a large deck of cards for the ingredients (frogs, Nightshade, Wormwood and so on). There are also some coloured minerals used as markers, and the game was delivered in a cloth pouch.
The later edition is boxed and upgraded to a wooden board and a d4 die is added, along with an ingredients card.
Players use the cards from their hand to collect the ingredients and brew their potion. The first witch to succeed wins the game and takes flight to Brocken...
